Data security

Which data will be collected and how will they be processed?

We collect data through a series of anonymous surveys that ask immigrants about their socio-economic background, experiences they made in Germany, and information and integration needs. The responses will be stored and processed anonymously, so that no identification of survey participants is possible during the empirical analysis. Anonymized data will be saved and processed on different secure servers at LMU Munich separately from your contact data. Only members of the research team will have access to the data.
Note: Your contact data is used only for communication purposes within this research project (e.g.: to contact you for the follow-up surveys). These data will not be linked to survey responses. It will be securely stored and managed on separate computer servers hosted by the Ludwig-Maximilian-University Munich (LMU), in strict accordance with German data protection regulations. Under no circumstances will it be shared with or transferred to third parties. As soon as the research purpose permits, your provided contact information will be immediately deleted.

The legal basis for data processing

The legal basis for data processing is your consent.

Participation in the research project is voluntary. Should you choose to participate initially and later opt to withdraw, you can do so by writing a short email at integrationevaluation@econ.lmu.de (Subject: Withdraw participation, Name). If you choose not to participate or withdraw your consent, this will not have any negative consequences for you. The withdrawal of consent only applies to future actions. The following text outlines your rights under the data protection regulations (GDPR):

  • Right to rectification (Art. 16 DSGVO): If the data concerning you is incorrect or incomplete, you can request corrections and completions.
